Rhododendron Red Jack 10L
Rhododendron ‘Red Jack’ – Evergreen Rhododendron
Rhododendron ‘Red Jack’ is a striking evergreen shrub known for its bold clusters of deep red flowers and glossy dark green foliage. Flowering in mid to late spring, the plant produces large trusses of rich red blooms that stand out beautifully against the evergreen leaves, creating a vibrant focal point in the garden.
Reaching approximately 1.5–2 metres in height with a similar spread, this compact rhododendron forms a dense, rounded shrub that works well in borders, woodland gardens, and mixed shrub plantings. Its evergreen foliage provides structure and colour throughout the year, making it an attractive feature even outside the flowering season.
The large flower trusses appear in spring, bringing dramatic colour and attracting early pollinators to the garden. Rhododendron ‘Red Jack’ is particularly effective planted in groups or alongside other acid-loving plants such as azaleas, camellias, and pieris.
This shrub thrives in partial shade and prefers moist, well-drained, acidic soil rich in organic matter. A sheltered position away from strong winds will help protect the foliage and encourage the best flowering performance.
Applying an annual mulch of ericaceous compost or leaf mould will help maintain suitable soil conditions. Removing spent flower heads after blooming can encourage strong growth for the following season.
Flowering Period
April – May: Flower buds open into rich red trusses
May – June: Peak flowering with bold clusters of blooms
Year-round: Evergreen foliage provides structure and interest
With its vivid red flowers and reliable evergreen foliage, Rhododendron ‘Red Jack’ is a superb choice for adding bold colour and year-round structure to shaded borders and woodland garden settings.
