Pulmonaria ‘Blue Ensign’ – Lungwort
Pulmonaria ‘Blue Ensign’ is a beautiful early spring perennial admired for its vivid cobalt-blue flowers and attractive foliage. Unlike many pulmonaria varieties, this cultivar features rich green leaves without the usual silver spotting, allowing the striking blue flowers to truly stand out.
Flowering in early to mid-spring, clusters of trumpet-shaped blooms appear above low mounds of soft, slightly textured foliage. The intense blue colour brings a fresh and vibrant display to shaded borders and woodland-style planting schemes at a time when many plants are only just emerging.
Growing to around 25–30 cm in height with a spread of 35–40 cm, Pulmonaria ‘Blue Ensign’ forms neat clumps that gradually spread to create attractive groundcover in partially shaded areas.
