Primula – Mixed Primroses

Mixed Primroses are cheerful and reliable spring-flowering perennials, loved for their bright, colourful blooms and compact growth habit. Available in a wide range of shades including yellow, pink, red, purple, blue, and white, these charming flowers bring vibrant early-season colour to gardens, borders, and containers.

Flowering from late winter into early spring, the blooms appear in clusters above neat rosettes of softly textured green foliage. Their rich colours and simple, classic flower shape make primroses a traditional favourite in cottage gardens and spring displays.

Growing to around 15–20 cm in height with a spread of 20–25 cm, mixed primroses form tidy clumps that are perfect for planting at the front of borders, edging pathways, or creating colourful drifts in beds and containers.

Primroses thrive in partial shade to full shade and prefer moist, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. They perform particularly well in cooler garden areas, woodland settings, and shaded borders where the soil remains consistently moist.

Deadheading spent flowers can help extend the flowering period and keep plants looking fresh throughout the spring months.

Flowering Period

February – March: Early blooms begin to appear

March – April: Peak flowering with vibrant mixed colours

April – May: Flowering gradually fades while foliage remains

With their bright colours and dependable nature, Mixed Primroses are an excellent choice for bringing lively spring colour to borders, containers, and shaded gard en spaces.
