Cornus Alba Sibirica Variegata 3L
Cornus alba ‘Sibirica Variegata’ – Variegated Red-Barked Dogwood
Cornus alba ‘Sibirica Variegata’ is a striking deciduous shrub admired for its elegant variegated foliage and brilliant red winter stems. During spring and summer, the plant displays soft green leaves edged with creamy white, bringing brightness and contrast to borders and mixed shrub plantings.
Growing to around 2–3 metres in height with a similar spread, this hardy shrub forms a dense, upright habit that works well as a feature plant, informal hedge, or part of a mixed border. In early summer, clusters of small creamy-white flowers appear among the foliage, followed by small white berries that can attract birds later in the season.
As autumn arrives, the leaves develop gentle warm tones before falling to reveal the plant’s most eye-catching feature — vivid red stems that provide outstanding colour throughout the winter months. These colourful stems create a striking display, especially when planted in groups or against darker backgrounds.
Cornus alba ‘Sibirica Variegata’ thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist, well-drained soil, although it is very tolerant of a range of soil types once established. It is particularly effective in wildlife gardens, larger borders, and naturalistic planting schemes.
To encourage the brightest winter stem colour, older stems can be pruned hard in early spring, allowing fresh young growth to develop and produce the most vibrant red stems the following winter.
Seasonal Interest
May – June: Small creamy-white flowers appear
Summer: Variegated foliage adds brightness and contrast

With its fresh variegated foliage and vivid winter stems, Cornus alba ‘Sibirica Variegata’ is an excellent year-round shrub that brings structure, colour, and seasonal interest to a wide range of garden settings.
